Marsteller Team Members Honored for Crisis Response

PITTSBURGH, September 20, 2005 - On August 17, 2005 the Hertz Gateway Center was forced to shut down and evacuate because of a 36-inch water main break in downtown Pittsburgh that sent 16 million gallons of water into the lower levels of the office complex.

Within a few hours of the water main break, Marsteller was engaged to help communicate with tenants, the media and the community at large. A website was developed the evening of the water main break that provided frequent updates on progress and offered key information to tenants. Erin Byrne and Tom Dowling served as media spokespeople for Hertz Gateway Center and the agency even staffed the lobbies of three office buildings to personally answer tenant inquiries.

The Pittsburgh City Council declared September 20, 2005 as Gateway Center Day in honor of the contractors, suppliers and strategic advisors who worked tirelessly over a ten day period to restore occupancy, and over a 20-plus day period to restore building services.
