August 12, 2002

The United States Treasury Department has selected Burson-Marsteller in New York to lead marketing for the redesign of the dollar. Spending for the five-year contract was estimated at $55 million. Burson-Marsteller will work with its sibling, Marsteller Advertising/Interactive, managing the overall campaign including media relations, retailer outreach, Web site design, advertising and collateral materials. Other WPP agencies that will collaborate on the account include Landor, for branding and identity work; the Bravo Group, Kang & Lee and UniWorld, for advertising aimed at multicultural groups; the Media Edge, for media duties; and Penn Schoen & Berland, for research services. The redesign includes the use of color for the first time.
