Andrew Nibley Named Chairman of
Marsteller
Vivendi Universal and Reuters Veteran
to Head Burson-Marsteller’s Advertising, Interactive,
Event Management and Production Unit
NEW YORK, December 20, 2002 Burson-Marsteller
today announced the appointment of Andrew Nibley as Chairman
of Marsteller, the agency’s advertising, interactive,
event management and production unit. Based in New York, Nibley
will oversee Marsteller’s U.S. operations in New York,
Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh and Chicago, and will coordinate
with the unit’s international offices in London, Frankfurt
and Hong Kong.
“Andy brings both an entrepreneur’s
talent for building business and a pioneer’s passion
for pushing the boundaries of possibility. It’s a powerful
combination,” said Chet Burchett, President and CEO
of Burson-Marsteller U.S.A.
"We're all very excited that Andy
is joining us. Marsteller has been successful the last couple
of years getting good results for clients, winning new business
and creative awards. With Andy's appointment, the agency will
be turbo-charged as it moves into new areas of growth,"
added Mike McKenna, President and CEO of Marsteller Advertising.
Nibley previously led Vivendi Universal’s music portal
activities on a global basis. He also was president and CEO
of GetMusic LLC, a joint venture of Universal Music Group
and BMG the country’s two largest music labels.
When Vivendi acquired Universal, he took on increasingly larger
roles.
At the time of his Vivendi departure,
Billboard Magazine wrote, “Nibley was a rising star,
overseeing all of Universal Music Group’s consumer Web
sites, GetMusic, eMusic.com and Rollingstone.com. Most notably,
Nibley had quietly transformed GetMusic from a sagging e-commerce
site into one of the most creative and heavily trafficked
music content destinations on the Web.”
“I am thrilled to be joining
an organization with such a strong and established platform
of integrated communications advertising, public relations,
event management and interactive,” Nibley said. “The
opportunity to build something unique and special at Marsteller
is what made Burson-Marsteller so attractive for the next
stage of my career.
My background running a business, working
as a journalist and building content-driven e-commerce Internet
companies has prepared me well for this role.”
Before his position at GetMusic, Mr.
Nibley co-founded Reuters NewMedia Inc. Under his leadership,
Reuters became the number one provider of news on the Internet.
At Reuters, Andy once held the position of Editor for North
and Latin America and additionally had the title of Senior
Vice President of News and Television. “In Andy, we
have found someone who understands the media, the Internet
and business,” Burchett said. “He knows what it
takes to provide service to clients and he enjoys the challenge
of building business and managing growth. He is highly creative
and will lead a Practice that feeds on creativity.”
Currently Nibley serves on the boards
of directors of CBS Sportsline USA Inc., Oddcast LLC, and
Newstruck Media Inc. He also is a member of the National Council
on Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University.
